I would say the main challenges have come with adapting to the regular daily life of being a local..although the locals are great I have never lived in an area which has so many cops and people driving around with guns in their cars. The strip is very safe but 5 minutes off the strip and you could get into some rougher areas. Being an actress and singer here is great because there is lots of potential work..but also allot more competition for the smaller bit parts and commercials..larger roles are few and far between but LA is so close you could hop on a plane and audition there or send a self taped.Overall, the shows and artistic quality is amazing yet a bit uninspiring for the artistic mind simply because everything is already done..yet once you remove yourself from the action of the crazy strip area you can def be inspired. There is nature in the desert and beautiful Grand Canyon area..great for the artists eye. I’m also thankful not to be suffering in the brutal Canadian winter..Vegas has been milder temperatures. Summertime in Vegas has pool parties where people get pretty wild where the winter is a little more club orientated. My fav pool parties are the topless ones where Ive seen Cilo (singer)and other celebs at..my fav night club which I went to on the regular were XS and Chateau. fun times! Ive seen several Cirque du Sol shows and many other Berlesque and variety shows here as well which have been inspiring. Now that ive been here for awhile I have all the clubbing and shows out of my system Im ready to be fully focused on creating a new set of paintings and writing my manuscript while auditioning on the regular. Im inspired lately and ready to get started again now that ive adapted to the life here. My agents have been getting me some great stuff lately so it keeps me going. Personal life and quality of living has been better as well since Ive been lucky enough to establish some great friendships.

My grandfather use to tell my brother, sister and I that you can count all your real friends on one finger. Our optimistic imaginations would run wild and we would end up counting the lines on our fingers and asking him “you mean by counting all the lines, Grandad?”. Now that I’m older I realize that he really only meant on one finger. As much as it is quite a pessimistic old school Irish style of thinking it is also a strong wisdom that I recognize to be more and more true as I age. I think I expect more out of my true friends than a person should really. Why can’t we just remain in the child like state of being and think of everyone as a play mate or friend. The world just doesn’t work that way I guess but the truth is I aim for my world to work that way. The more you play in life the younger you stay and the more humble you are.

I was lucky to be raised in a large family where it wasn’t just all about me all the time. I would go to the kitchen to make myself a sandwich and along would come my little sister Gina tugging at my arm saying she was hungry so I’d it her down at the table and give her the sandwich I made and start making another only to have my little brother Nik come into the kitchen and say that he too would like one. So I’d repeat the same steps. Then of course my other sister Aleksa was hungry so I’d feed her too. Then the youngest one Tommy would want a bottle. That’s fine by me. I didn’t mind at all. I was sorta like a second mom to them all and it made my life full. I have four brothers and four sisters. “Never a dull moment” as my mother would say

I think being from a large family made me want to be alone in a sense enough so that I could find who I was. I felt I needed to escape it all so that I could find who I was and what I wanted. Who is Sima? so I escaped to Australia for a year. After that year of soul searching I knew that I wanted to be in the entertainment/performing arts world. I had the brian for it and the passion. It was always in me but I had repressed it before because my mother knew it would be a struggle. Truth is whatever you do in this world that’s worth while is a somewhat struggle. My mother wanted me to become a dental Hygienist. My friends all laughed when I told them that. My mother had a point and she wanted the best for me. At the time the newspapers were all indicating that it was the best profession for woman and to put your daughter into dental hygiene program. I found out just recently that so many parents put their daughters into dental hygiene school that now there is not enough jobs in that field. That’s why I think my auntie Paula was more correct in her theory “do what you love and the money will follow”. I took her advice and ran with it because I had seen all the success she had had in her “Healthy Home Architecture” job. When I was 12 she was the most successful person I knew and I could see that she was passionate about her career. She learned from her father of who chose to be a fashion designer and was very successful in his business.

What bothers me the most in my industry is that people expect you to do art for very little to even NO pay. The truth is that I love my job so much that I would do it for free but the reality is that everyone needs to make a living. Do what you love and the money will follow is what my aunt always told me. That’s why I appreciate Unions like SAG and ACTRA who fight for our rights as performing artists. Models in the USA and Canada are not even protected unless they join an agency in England or Australia. It’s sad to admit that most model, musicians, painters, musicians and any other artist you can think of work for free because there is no union to protect them. I even have had time where I’ve had to bring in my own fan and pay to play and do free art displays to get “exposure”. It’s sad to say that I’ve had to get nude just to get paid to be an artist and let me tell you it kinda sucks. The way that the industry works and the way that I’ve been guided really has been tough and I’ve done what I’ve had to do as an artist to survive and then I sit back and hope that nobody will judge me for the steps that I’ve had to take. Yes many secretly sleep there way to the top behind closed doors and never show themselves nude and the truth never shows to the public eye. I have chosen not to sleep my way to the top and to just take it one step at a time and develop my art. Unfortunately being a woman in this industry is tough but I continue to do what is right for my own set of morals because at the end of the day I go “to bed” with myself and myself alone.

I always love doing photoshoots. It’s just another way of expressing myelf artistically. Sometimes I even go on the other side of the camera and shoot people or tell the photographer exactly how I want something shot. I also have done photoshoots for commercials and prop shots for movies and television shows. Some people call it modeling but I simply see it as photo art. I like to come up with my own looks and styles for my shoots unless I’m hired to do shoots for others then I don’t mind leaving it up to them! He is very professional and went to many years of film school training. He set up a proper story bored and researched and confirmed the whole artitic idea with me firt before we shot.

What’s in your Bowl?

The most important part of your day is what happens when you sit down and eat. What do you put into that tummy of yours to make yourself having amazing energy?

I usually start off with something like this: ground flax, Hemp Hearts(jammed packed with Omega 3s!), nuts and seeds and some berries..then just add a bit of hot water and almond milk. How you treat your colon health is what determines how young you will look and feel. Feed your body well and it will do what you want it to do…and you want that don’t you?

Salads..jammed packed with everything yummy! I put nuts and seeds as well as every type of veggie I can find. I add chickpeas and beans sometimes and once in a while egg or tuna. I try to stay away from too many animal proteins by adding vegetable proteins as much as I can. Just be creative with it and make sure you choose amazing salad dressings. I make my own. I take a table spoon of hummus and mix it with some vinegar and a little dash of lemon juice and dill weed..amazing Salad dressing. Yummy. So great for you and very easy to make.

I really like Vegan Protein Shakes too. I put Cocoa in it and a bit of fruit and Almond or Rice milk and blend it with my hand blender…it cost me $7 for the handblender at Walmart! I don’t eat dairy products nor too much soya products for my own reasons! That’s up to you..I’ve researched it all and have decided on what my body does well with! Keep up with all you antioxidant vitamins Like Vitamin C and D and Probiotics(the real ones from the health food store not from the yogurt commercials) and you will NEVER get sick! That’s the honest truth! Oh and drink lots of water! Purified of course! And make sure you sweat a little every day at least a little!

Another one of my fav things to make is Quenoi..I’ll give you some great recipes later though! More tips to come!
